Promising as ever is the line up for this year's artists to watch out for. With such a huge and diverse pool of talent to explore and enjoy, it is just too much to condense into one. So here is a handpicked selection of just a few of the year's up and coming artists.
Frank Ocean, a singer and songwriter from New Orleans has been writing for the likes of Beyonce, Kanye West and Jay Z, and has now found fame on his own with his debut mix tape Nostalgia Ultra. Voted second in the BBC Sound of 2012 poll, and plans for a debut studio album to be released before the first half of the year is up, it is clear that Frank Ocean is going places.
Lana Del Ray is the hot new name on everyone lips this year after she made a big impression on the charts in late 2011 with her debut single Video Games. The 1960s inspired femme fatale of the pop world is both outstanding in talent and image, with her pin up looks and sensuous husky vocals creating a storm. It will be very interesting to see what else she has to give during 2012.
Fun. is a band that has been somewhat thrown together and sounds like an extremely happy mistake. With band members from all different walks of life and genres, the music seems to take on a version of pop never quite like any other. With their vintage melodies and quirky style they are not to be missed, and most people are beginning to find the charming boys quite hard to resist.
Pop singer Dev has been making appearances here there and everywhere in the last year or so, with a sample of her song Booty Bounce featuring in Far East Movement's single Like A G6 and her vocals on JLS's hit She Makes Me Wanna, not to mention her appearance on David Guetta's album. But this year is Dev's time to shine on her own, as she has released her solo debut album, and that is just the beginning for her. Watch this space.
